International Women's Day (8 March)

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating and commemorating the social, economical, cultural and political achievements of women. International Women's Day is about celebrating mothers, sisters, wives, girlfriends, fiancees - all women - and showing them how much we appreciate, respect, love and value them.

The first observance of a Women's Day was in 1909 in New York and for a while now every year this day has a specific theme. This year it's all about progressing gender parity. There's a strong call to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive. A strong call to press for progress in gender parity.

But as always, the campaign does not end at International Women's Day, it's just the start. Gender parity doesn't happen overnight, it's a step by step process all over the world.

How to celebrate? The main thing is to raise awareness about the struggles of women the world over and to honor their achievements. Worldwide game-changings like women finally obtaining the right to vote are huge, but smaller feats are as important. Cases where a simple 'thank you' would suffice, showing appreciation.

So #pressforprogress
